India U-19 players celebrate victory against New Zealand U-19 after winning by 7 wickets in ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe:
India Under-19 continued their dominant run in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026 by registering a convincing 7-wicket victory over New Zealand Under-19 in a rain-affected Group B encounter. With this win, India not only remained unbeaten in the tournament but also finished at the top of their group, sending a strong message to the other contenders.

Rain-Hit Match, India Stay in Control

The match, played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, was interrupted by rain multiple times, leading to a reduction in overs and the application of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Despite the challenging conditions, the Indian youngsters showed composure and clarity in execution, both with the ball and the bat.

New Zealand Struggle Against Indian Bowling

Batting first, New Zealand U-19 were bowled out for 135 runs in 36.2 overs. The Indian bowling unit maintained tight lines and consistent pressure, never allowing the Kiwi batters to build long partnerships.

India’s bowlers made excellent use of the conditions, mixing pace and accuracy to restrict scoring opportunities. Regular wickets ensured New Zealand could not recover after losing early momentum, and their innings ended without a significant late surge.

Revised Target, Confident Indian Chase

After rain curtailed the match, India were set a revised target under the DLS system. The Indian batters responded with intent, adopting an aggressive yet controlled approach from the very first over.

Ayush Mhatre Shines With the Bat

Ayush Mhatre emerged as the star of the chase, playing a blistering knock of 53 runs off just 27 balls. His fearless stroke play dismantled the New Zealand bowling attack and took the game away early.

Supporting him well was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who smashed 40 runs off 23 balls, ensuring there were no hiccups in the chase. Their partnership laid a solid foundation, allowing India to cruise comfortably towards the target.

India eventually reached 130 for 3 in just 13.3 overs, sealing the match with plenty of overs to spare and underlining their batting depth.

India Finish Group Stage Unbeaten

With this victory, India U-19 finished the group stage unbeaten, reinforcing their status as one of the tournament favorites. The team has shown balance throughout the competition, with bowlers delivering breakthroughs and batters stepping up in crucial moments.

The win against New Zealand also highlighted India’s adaptability, especially in rain-affected situations—an important quality in tournament cricket.

New Zealand Look to Regroup

For New Zealand U-19, the defeat marked a setback, but there were positives to take away, particularly in patches of disciplined bowling. However, inconsistency with the bat proved costly, and they will need stronger performances going forward to stay competitive in the tournament.

What’s Next?

As the tournament moves into the knockout phase, India U-19 will look to carry forward their momentum and fine form. With confidence high and key players peaking at the right time, the Indian side appears well-prepared for tougher challenges ahead.
